     Al Mejar sanitary sewage treatment is designed to have a flow capacity of 32400 m3/day. The project consists of:
  • Inlet Pumping Station

Works Description
     Al Mejar sanitary sewage treatment is designed to have a flow capacity of 32400 m3/day. It receives the raw sewage through a trunk sewer, the raw sewage is pumped by screw type inlet pumping station to the first stage of sewage treatment which is the screenings removal unit. This unit will be composed of float controlled mechanically cleaned fine screen with a bypass manually cleaned coarse screen.

     After the screen unit, the sewage will flow into two attached aerated grit chambers. The pretreated sewage will be then distributed via a distribution chamber to two primary sedimentation tanks. These tanks equipped with mechanical sludge scrapers, sludge collecting hopper, sludge draw off and scum removal facilities.

     The settled sewage will flow to two aeration tanks in which it will be biologically treated (reducing of BOD) with the adoption of conventional activated sludge process. After that, the sewage will flow to two secondary sedimentation tanks for withdrawal of activated sludge mass.

     The over flows from the two secondary sedimentation tanks will be collected through a collection chamber from which the treated sewage will flow to two attached chlorination tanks for the intent of final effluent disinfection. The final effluent will be pumped via submersible type effluent pumping station to river. Waste activated sludge will be pumped to thickening unit. For this purpose two sets of pumps will be used (P.S.2).

     The thickening unit, which will be composed of two thickening tanks, will also receive the sludge produced in primary settling tanks via P.S.1. In this unit the volume of sludge will be decreased prior to its pumping to the digestion unit via P.S.3.

     The digestion unit will be composed of two aerobic digesters. The aerobic digesters will be supplied with oxygen using floating mechanical surface aerators. The digested sludge will be then transferred to sand drying beds for sludge dewatering. The dried sludge will be collected manually prior to its final disposal

Mechanical and Electrical Equipment
  1. Inlet Pumping Station
    The pumping well shall be equipped with 3Nos. submerged pumps of identical capacity. 2Nos. of them as duty- pumps and the remaining pump as standby.
  2. Screening Equipment

  3. Aerated Grit Chamber Equipment
    1. Grit Removal Equipment
      One grit removal unit would be supplied and installed spanning two attached aerated grit chambers with a wheel track span of 5.5m. It shall be consisted of one traveling bridge, two grit suction pumps, and one grit storage tank.

    The equipment would be included inlet distribution system, traveling scraper bridge with sludge scraper blade, overflow weir, and scum removal equipment.

      The flow enters the stilling well through an underflow pipe and is distributed through 32 inlet pipes into the tank

  6. Aeration Tank Equipment
    Each of the two aeration tanks would be equipped with three mechanical surface aerators, effluent weir plate, and oxygen control equipment of the following characteristics:
    1. Mechanical Surface Aerators
    2. Effluent Weir Plate
      Each tank would be equipped with effluent weir plate (of 45cm height and 21m length) for adjusting the water level init (if it is necessary).
    3. Oxygen Control Equipment
      Each aeration tank would be equipped with one set of oxygen control equipment. The equipment shall be complete with the necessary probes, controllers, switches, comparator, indicators, and recorders, etc..
  7. Secondary Sedimentation Tank Equipment
    The equipment would be included inlet distribution system, traveling scraper bridge with sludge scraper blade, overflow weir, and scum removal equipment.

  8. Chlorination Unit Equipment
    The effluent of secondary sedimentation tanks would be disinfected using chorine gas.
  9. Sludge Thickening Equipment
    Each of the two sludge thickeners would be equipped with a bridge spanning the entire diameter of the tank, a central derive unit, bottom scraper blades and vertical stirring arms, and overflow weir and scum baffle.
  10. Aerobic Digesters Equipment
    Each of the two aerobic digesters would be equipped with 2 Nos. of mechanical surface aerators.
  11. Primary Sludge Pumping Station (P.S.1)

  13. Thickened Sludge Pumping Station (P.S.3)
  14. Excess Water Pumping Station

      They shall house the 11kV switchgear, transformers, L.T. switches and diesel generators.
